The Site

Most "in-fill" developments, especially in Fairfax County, disregard the land. Sites are totally demolished, and houses constructed with the largest possible footprint and limited regard for quality. Most often, no thought is given to orientation, daylight, privacy, location, land use, or the surroundings.

Outside of Washington DC , just inside the Beltway, this project to design new modern homes is taking shape in Falls Church , Virginia , 22046 . Architect -designed, each energy efficient house is minutes from Tyson’s Corner, the Beltway, and I-66.  The houses of Poplar Terrace are walking distance to the West Falls Church metro, the W+OD trail system, the Poplar Heights swimming pool, and shopping in Falls Church .

Limited to just four exclusive sites, this contemporary architecture is distinctive.  Connection of landscape and home is paramount. Each home shares a stand of protected old growth Tulip Poplar in a preservation outlot complete with rain garden.  Inspired by housing types found in cities like Charleston , South Carolina , each house is set alongside walled terraces perpendicular to the street to garner more private outdoor space and optimal solar orientation.
